DIY: Tacky Christmas Skirt

Wednesday, December 9, 2015

Hello, hello!
I am excited to share my first DIY (do it yourself) project! Ben and I are all about hosting and throwing parties, we love it. Next weekend we are throwing a tacky Christmas sweater party and I am so ready! I wanted to create something for the party and I have seen these bow skirts all over pinterest. Perfect time to make one and pair it with my tacky sweater.

What you'll need:

Skirt
I found mine at Plato's Closet for $6

One bag of bows
Purchased a bag of 50 at Target for $5

Gold Tinsel
Purchased at Target for $3

Hot glue gun
Step One: After you have your items organized, get your hot glue gun ready. I always lay a paper towel or something underneath to catch any drops of glue. While your hot glue gun is warming up, lay out your bows and see where you would like them to sit on the skirt. This way all of you have to do is pick up the bows and place them back right where you like!
Step Two: Start hot gluing! Simply pick up the bow, turn it to its back side and hot glue the middle as well as the sides. This way none of the sides will stick up once the bow has dried. After gluing, place the bow where you would like then press and hold for a minute or so. Just to make sure its nice and secure.
Step Three: Tinsel time! With the tinsel, I only glued a small section to each of the front sides of the skirt. You don't want to do too much because of the elastic waist band. Too much hot glue would take the stretch away and it would be difficult to put on. I did not glue any tinsel on the back. I left the tinsel loose and cut of the extra to tie a bow in the back.
Step four: After letting the glue set and dry, you're all finished. I am so happy with how it turned out! This whole little project cost me under $16 after taxes and all. Not too shabby!

I took these photos at my grandmother's house. She has such beautiful natural lighting in her home and I unfortunately do not have very good lighting in my apartment.
Anyways, this is her pup, Molly. She obviously wanted her picture taken :)

Thank you so much for stopping by!
If you are attending an upcoming party and re-create this look tag me! I would LOVE to see!
